English[edit]

Noun[edit]

dachshound (plural dachshounds)

  1. Archaic form of dachshund.
    • 1877, Vanity Fair, volume 17, page 179:
      Among the pack were a few really thoroughbred dachshounds, and I recognised Waldmann, who, by his air of superior importance, led me to suppose he had fully learnt the lesson which his owner had promised to inculcate.
    • 1887, The Living Age, volume 174, page 770:
      Six years ago I brought him down,
      A baby dog, from London town;
      Round his small throat of black and brown
      A ribbon blue,
      And vouch'd by glorious renown
      A dachshound true.
