From Proto-Philippine *dakəp, from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *dakəp, from Proto-Austronesian *dakəp. Cognate with Cebuano dakop (“to catch; to arrest”), Indonesian and Malay dakap (“having one's hands clasped or arms embraced”).
