From Ottoman Turkish طاماق (tamak, damak),[1] from Common Turkic *tamgak (“throat”).[2][3] Cognate with Azerbaijani damaq, Old Uyghur [script needed] (tamɣaq), Karakhanid [script needed] (tamğak), Kipchak [script needed] (tamaq).
