Etymology[edit]

From deguns (nose) +‎ rags (horn) (with g > dz palatalization caused by the shift from first declension ending -s to second declension ending -is), a calque ultimately based on Ancient Greek ῥινόκερως (rhinókerōs, rhinoceros).
