  1. deputy, proxy, representative, substitute (one who takes the place of another)
  2. (used attributively) deputy, junior
  3. (politics, in certain countries) deputy, representative, Member of Parliament

Usage notes[edit]

  • Causes soft mutation of the following noun when used attributively, e.g. dirprwy bennaeth (deputy headteacher).
