Usage notes[edit]
This term is used almost exclusively of the status of a diplomat who does not have a current foreign assignment, but is placed temporarily in the ministry headquarters and is available for a new assignment. Same term is used of the status of a diplomat who has been shelved for one reason or another. Verbs typically used with this noun are joutua, määrätä and olla.
