draw left (third-person singular simple present draws left, present participle drawing left, simple past drew left, past participle drawn left)

  1. A verbal command given usually to the bowman of a canoe or raft. It means to place the paddle in the water on the left side parallel to the boat and pull it towards the boat. This is a maneuver to move the front of the boat to the left side.
    When we get to the bottom of the rapids, draw left to avoid the sweepers.
