From Old Irish druï, druí (druid; magician, wizard, diviner), from Proto-Celtic *dru-wid- (tree-knower), from Proto-Indo-European *dóru (tree) + *weyd- (to know). Cognate with Irish draoi, Scottish Gaelic draoidh, Welsh dryw.
