English[edit]
Etymology[edit]
Noun[edit]
ecchiness (uncountable)
- (fandom slang) The quality of being or resembling ecchi ("a genre, especially of anime and manga, featuring playful, tongue-in-cheek usage of sexualized scenes and situations such as double entendre or flirtation, while remaining non-pornographic").
- 2002 June 16, Ziggy, “momorio sisters”, in uk.media.animation.anime[2] (Usenet):
- ...Demo... you shouldn't watch it all at once, you should savour your ecchiness like a fine wine. You see, ecchiness is very much like a beautiful woman. Hard to see the ecchi side is. You pay, you wait, you pay, you wait - sometimes you only get as far as customs, sometimes you get all the way... but pay, always you will. Sometimes it seems that if there's a bright center to the ecchiness, you're on the planet that it's farthest from. But do not despair, alone you are not. For I too want to learn the ways of the ecchi and become a hentai like my father.
- 2005 January 28, Dave Baranyi, “Negima 4 - my take”, in rec.arts.anime.misc[3] (Usenet):
- This episode rivals some of the worst of the Warner Brothers or H&B cartoons from 40 years ago in terms of having unfunny humour, pointless situations and poor animation. Even the supposed "ecchiness" is pathetic - there's more ecchiness in most episodes of Keroro Gunsou and that is broadcast at 10 AM on Saturday mornings.
- 2009 December 29, Dave Baranyi, “Sora no Otoshimon Ending - spoilers”, in rec.arts.anime.misc[4] (Usenet):
- And the creators of the show were smart enough to be able to successfully pull off a feel-good serious ending that didn't contain ecchiness but that still stayed entertaining and true to the overall spirit of the series.
