Borrowed from Swahili ngamia (camel), from Arabic جَمَل (jamal, camel), from Proto-West Semitic *gamal- (camel). Doublet of engamiya (camel; horse). Compare Yao ngamila, Chichewa ngamira, and Shona ngamera.
