Etymology[edit]

From Ancient Greek ἐπένδυμα (epénduma), "upper garment", from ἐπενδύνω (ependúnō, I put on over) +‎ -μα (-ma, noun suffix), from ἐπι- (epi-, on, over) +‎ ἐνδύνω (endúnō, I put on (clothes)).
