Etymology[edit]
From Latin scrūpulus (“scruple, nagging doubt, 1⁄24 uncia”), from scrūpus (“sharp stone, anxiety”) + -ulus (“-ule: forming diminutives”). Doublet of escrúpulo. Cognate with Spanish escrúpulo.
