English[edit]

Noun[edit]

executive decision (plural executive decisions)

  1. A decision by a group or person with executive powers.
    • 2008, Elizabeth E. Bomberg, John Peterson, Alexander C-G. Stubb, The European Union: How Does it Work?, →ISBN, page 169:
On many sensitive topics—such as taxation and the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP)—the Council remains the primary legislator and the directly elected Parliament is often only consulted. In the case of enlargement (an executive decision rather than a matter of 'legislation') the EP is called upon only to assent or dissent.
  2. (humorous) A decision that is made without input from others.
    • 2008, Diedre Silva, Jackie Koney, It Takes More Than Balls, →ISBN:
Near the end of the game, he made an executive decision to start warming up, and it looked as if he were going to pitch in the game.
