German[edit]

Pronunciation[edit]

  • (file)

Adjective[edit]

exemplarisch (strong nominative masculine singular exemplarischer, not comparable)

  1. exemplary, example
    Synonym: beispielhaft
Diese exemplarischen Fälle zeigen schon, dass ...
These exemplary cases already show that ...
  2. generic, quintessential

Usage notes[edit]

  • Though slightly formal, the adjective is more common than the underlying noun Exempel. There is perhaps a tendency to use beispielhaft more for “exemplary” in the sense of “ideal, prototypical”, and to use exemplarisch more for the sense “named as an example” (as above). However, both adjectives can be used in both senses.
