From Proto-Norse ᚨᚢᚷᛁᛉ (augiʀ) (attested in ᚷᛚᛇᚨᚢᚷᛁᛉ (glïaugiʀ, “gleaming-eyed”)). The -ð- is due to confusion with past participles.
