Interjection[edit]

faz o L

  1. (Brazil, politics, neologism, often offensive) An informal mobilization slogan and a reference to the hand gesture that was the hallmark of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's campaign for the presidency of Brazil in 2022.

Usage notes[edit]

  • When used by voters of President Luís Inácio Lula da Silva: They use the phrase to praise his government and highlight contrasts with the previous government. They also began to use the phrase to react to ironies from the Bolsonaro camp.
  • When used by voters of President Jair Messias Bolsonaro: Used during Lula's election campaign, it has been used by opponents to criticize the actions of previous governments and the current PT mandate. These campaigns use neologisms such as "fazueli", "fazuele", "fazoele" and "fazoeli", and focus on issues such as new taxes, reductions in social benefits and changes to labor laws.
  • Note: This term is commonly used offensively against people from the Brazilian Northeast after the defeat of former President Jair Bolsonaro in the 2023 elections.
