Hungarian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From the fek- stem of fekszik (to lie, recline) +‎ -te (noun-forming suffix).

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): [ˈfɛktɛ]
  • Hyphenation: fek‧te
  • Rhymes: -tɛ

Noun[edit]

fekte

  1. his/her/its lying, reclining (the act or the position)
    Synonym: (narrower in use) fekvése
    Coordinate terms: állta, ülte

Usage notes[edit]

  • In contrast with állta and ülte, this form doesn’t coincide with the related verb form, as it would be feküdte, though it occurs with prefixes, e.g. from the verb kifekszik.
  • The current noun is most commonly (but not exclusively) used with the case suffixes -ben and -ből (after any possessive form, given in the table below).
