  1. The top section of an animal cage, such as a microisolator, that incorporates a filter.
    • 1983, Laboratory Animal Science, page 502:
      To avoid further problems, animals were housed in shoebox cages with filtertops in a laminar-flow cabinet within an isolation cubicle. All caging, feed, water, and bedding were autoclaved before use.
