Etymology[edit]
Borrowed from English flannel, from Middle English flaunneol, from Anglo-Norman flanelle, diminutive of Old French flaine, floene, from Gaulish, from Proto-Celtic *wlānos, *wlanā, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂wĺ̥h₁neh₂. Doublet of lanugo and wełna.
