Maltese[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From underlying fl-mkien (in the place, on the spot), from Arabic فِي الْمَكان (fī al-makān). Probably from such collocations as ilkoll flimkien, originally “everybody in the place” and hence “all those present together”.
