Etymology[edit]

From Middle Low German vlucht, from Proto-West Germanic *fluhti (flight), cognate with English flight, German Flucht, Dutch vlucht. A conflation of two different nouns derived from two different verbs, *fleuhaną (to flee) and *fleuganą (to fly).
