freezeout (plural freezeouts)

  1. (physics) Any situation in which the motion of a system of particles ceases.
  2. (business) A kind of merger by which one or more shareholders who collectively hold a majority of shares in a corporation gain ownership of remaining shares in that corporation.
  3. (gambling, sometimes attributive) A tournament in which players are gradually eliminated and the last remaining player wins everything gambled.
