Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Germanic *fedwōr, from Proto-Indo-European *kʷetwóres. This and Gothic 𐍆𐌹𐌳𐍅𐍉𐍂 (fidwōr) are the only Germanic forms preserving the d in this word.
