Albanian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

According to Orel, either derived from or from the same origin as Ancient Greek γαύσαπος (gaúsapos, frieze), or more likely, dialectal Ancient Macedonian γαυσἃφος (gaushàphos), as PA derivatives doesnt fit correctly with either greek spelling.[1] The substratum language is or has been influenced by a Semitic source such as Akkadian 𒆪𒍦𒁍 (/kuzippu, guzippu/, cloak, clothing, wrapping especially for warmth). Acording to Jokl, its from an ancient substrate from reconstructed "*gʰốu-di-āpos", probably "bovine"
