Affixed garis + -an. Semantic loan from Javanese ꦒꦫꦶꦱꦤ꧀ (garisan, “ruler”) for ruler sense.

Usage notes[edit]
The line, marking sense is related to the product of line as a verb. For line as an object description, the word garis is used instead of garisan.
