From older and dialectal glisht, from Proto-Albanian *glista, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷelH- (“to sting”) (compare German Kiel (“quill”), Lithuanian gãlas (“end, tip”), Greek βελόνα (velóna, “needle”)).
