From French guitare f, Spanish guitarra f or Italian chitarra f, all from Arabic قِيثَارَة f (qīṯāra), from Latin cithara f, from Ancient Greek κῐθᾰ́ρᾱ f (kithárā). Of common ancestry to cittra and kitara.
