From Middle Welsh gorchymyn, from Proto-Brythonic *gworxumɨnn (compare Old Cornish gurhemin, Middle Breton gourchemenn), from *gwor- (over) + *kumɨnn (from Latin commendō (commend; recommend). By surface analysis, gor- +‎ cymyn (testament; bequest).
