Blend of bean + green pea galaxy. From being similar in appearance to green pea galaxies but larger. From beans being similar to peas but larger.

- (astronomy) A type of galaxy with a green tinge. They are thought to be caused by an ionization wave from a nearby quasar whose beam blasted through the galaxy, causing the glow.
