  1. (aviation) The halting of air traffic for a particular airport, with no arrivals allowed and all departures held on the ground.
  2. (aviation) The cessation of all take-offs for flights meeting particular criteria, such as geographic region, aircraft type, airline, etc, keeping these grounded.
