Luxembourgish[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From German höflich, from Middle High German hövelich, from hof (court) + -lich, equivalent to Luxembourgish Haff +‎ -lech. In view of the vocalism an older borrowing, but it cannot be a native descendant of the Middle High German.
