höra av (“hear from”) + sig (“oneself”)
Verb[edit]
höra av sig (present hör av sig, preterite hörde av sig, supine hört av sig, imperative hör av sig)
- (reflexive) to get in touch, to reach out, to contact
- Vi hör av oss när vi börjar närma oss
- We'll call you (for example) / get in touch ("hear from ourselves") when we [start to] get closer (to the destination – think a trip to someone)
- Har Nisse hört av sig än?
- Have you heard from Nisse yet? ("Has Nisse heard from himself yet?")
- Om jag inte hör av mig så kan ni fixa det själva. Ni behöver inte vänta på mig.
- If you don't hear from me ("if I do not get in touch / 'hear from myself'"), you can take care of it yourselves. You don't have to wait for me.
- Många läsare har hört av sig till tidningen med frågor efter artikeln
- Many readers have contacted ("heard from themselves to") the newspaper with questions following the article
- Hör av dig om det är några problem så kommer jag och hjälper dig
- Let me know ("hear from yourself") if there are any problems and I'll come and help you
Usage notes[edit]
- Can be thought of as the opposite of having heard from someone. If you "hör av dig," then you become a person someone has heard from.
- A particle verb. Stress on av.
