Borrowed from Serbo-Croatian alakati (to clamor or voice astonishment loudly, especially by referring to Allah, to rush).[1][2]
From Ottoman Turkish هَلَكَات (heleket) from Arabic هَلَكَة (halakat, destroying, destruction, devastation.)[3]
