Welsh[edit]
Alternative forms[edit]
Etymology[edit]
From hon (“this”) + yna (“there”). Compare hwnna and hynna.
Pronunciation[edit]
Pronoun[edit]
honna f (masculine hwnna)
- (informal) that
- Synonym: honno
- Pwy ydy honna? ― Who's that (girl)?
- Ti biau 'na? ― Is that yours? (literally, “Is it you that owns that?”)
Usage notes[edit]
- Refers to grammatically feminine nouns, hwnna being the masculine equivalent. In addition, hynny (or hynna colloquially in the north) is used nonreferentially, for example, when talking about a general situation, action or event, rather than any particular noun.
- May be reduced to 'na in colloquial language, whereas in formal language, honno is preferred with the same meaning.
Related terms[edit]

- hwnna, hynna, hwnnw, honno (“that”); hynny (“that; those”)
