From Proto-Germanic *hrōþīgaz. Equivalent to hrēþ +‎ -iġ. Cognate with Gothic *𐌷𐍂𐍉𐌸𐍃 (*hrōþs) (used in personal names), 𐌷𐍂𐍉𐌸𐌴𐌹𐌲𐍃 (hrōþeigs).
