Etymology[edit]

From hringar (rings (jewellery)) +‎ , an alternative spelling of Gná, the name of a Norse goddess. Jewellery is often utilized when creating kennings about women.

Only used in Jónas Hallgrímsson's poem Hættu að gráta hringaná, the title thus meaning "Don't cry, dear girl".
