Maltese[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Root
’-ż-j
1 term

From Arabic جَزَى (jazā, to requite). The imperfect tense shows assimilation *niġżiniżżi. The rare perfect is a backformation from the imperfect on the model of such a verb as idda, from Arabic أَدَّى (ʔaddā). Doublet of ġeża ("to reward").

Pronunciation[edit]
