Etymology[edit]

Cognate with Igala ùchà, Olukumi usa, Itsekiri utsa, Arigidi àtʃà, possibly related to Ifè ìtsà (gourd) and Urhobo ochẹ. Proposed to be derived from Proto-Edekiri *ʊ̀-cà, from Proto-Yoruba *ʊ̀-cà, ultimately from Proto-Yoruboid *ʊ̀-cà.
