Etymology[edit]
From Old Anatolian Turkish [script needed] (yipek). Probably a derivation of Proto-Turkic *yip (“thread”). Cognate with Turkish ipek, Turkmen ýüpek, Uzbek ipak, Kazakh жібек (jıbek), Kyrgyz жибек (jibek).
