Romanian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Origin disputed. Possibly from Proto-Slavic *županъ (see jupan), however this theory presents several morphologic and phonetic problems.

Noun[edit]

jupân m (plural jupâni, feminine equivalent jupâneasă)

  1. master (a courtesy title for a boy)
