From Proto-Slavic *kozorožьcь, diminutive of *kozorogъ (ibex). Cognate with Upper Sorbian kozoróžk, Polish koziorożec, Czech kozorožec, Serbo-Croatian kȍzorōg, and Russian козеро́г (kozeróg).
