From Ottoman Turkish قتیپیوس (kıtıpiyos), from a dialectal form of Greek και αυτός ποιος (είναι;) (kai aftós poios (eínai;), and who (is) this one?, a pejorative expression for a worthless person). Compare Turkish aftospiyos.
