Norwegian Nynorsk[edit]

Alternative forms[edit]

  • kakskive, kakeskive (usually a not-phonetic spelling because of apocope removal)
  • kakskjiv, kaksjiv (can be considered as a misspelling)

Etymology[edit]

From kake (cake) +‎ skive (slice). Probably a result of semantic drift cake > bread. Anyway, the word kake itself has no meaning as bread in Trøndersk dialect (at least today).

Pronunciation[edit]

Noun[edit]

kakskiv f (definite singular kakskiva, definite singular dative kakskiven, indefinite plural kakskivo, definite plural kakskivonn, definite plural dative kakskivom)

  1. (dialectal, Trøndelag) a slice of bread
  2. (dialectal, Trøndelag) an open sandwich
