Etymology[edit]
From Ottoman Turkish قاصندی (ḳaṣındı, ḳaṣıntı, “a stretching, tightness, tension”),[1] from Ottoman Turkish قاصنمق (ḳaṣınmaḳ, “to be shrunk, to tighten, to pinch expenses, to be frugal”),[2] from Ottoman Turkish قاصمق (ḳaṣmaḳ, “to stretch tight, to tighten, to curtail expenses”), from Proto-Turkic *K(i)as- (“to constrict, to tighten”),[3][4] morphologically kas- + -ın + -tı.

- Temporary stitching to tighten or to gather a part of a garment; tacking or basting stitches.
- (figuratively) The act of bragging, showing off, tooting one's own horn.
- (figuratively, derogatory) Someone who brags, shows off; a braggart, a peacock, stuck up.
