Etymology[edit]
Intensifying "reduplication" of lí do (“reason; excuse”), based on tro trấu (“ash from burning rice hulls”, used in agriculture) and gio (the Northern form of tro, pronounced identically to do). Therefore, this phrase most likely originated from the Northern region.
