Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Brythonic *llɨvn, from Proto-Celtic *slimnos, from Proto-Indo-European *(s)ley- (slime, slimy, sticky, slippery). Cognate with Breton levn, Scottish Gaelic sleamhainn, English slime.[1]
