Etymology[edit]

(This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.) From ‘loop-the-loop’, referring to a plane or roller coaster doing a full 360 in the air. Basically, looping the loop. The ‘de’ in the middle is just an alternative form of the same phrase.
