Etymology[edit]
Borrowed from Yiddish מזל (mazl, “luck”), from Hebrew מַזָּל (mazál). Suffixed with -i to resolve the word-final consonant cluster, compare cetli from Bavarian zettl or German Zettel (/ˈt͡sɛtl̩/) etc.
