Borrowed from Swahili msalaba,[1] from Arabic صَلِيب (ṣalīb).

Pronunciation[edit]

As for Tonal Class, Benson (1964) classifies this term into Class 6 with a trisyllabic stem, together with kĩgongona, and so on.
