magnetic bearing (plural magnetic bearings)

  1. (nautical, navigation) Directional bearing relative to the nearest magnetic pole, as shown by a compass.
  2. (engineering) A contactless mechanical bearing in which a rotating part, such as a shaft, is held in place by a magnetic field.
